Isaac Hayes - Hayes Family Wants Songs Back

Soul fable ISAAC HAYES' family is to set up legal military action to regain the rights to his hit songs.

The singer's back catalogue, which includes classics such as Do Your Thing and Theme from Shaft, was sold for $30,000 (GBP15,000) on the orders of a court next his bankruptcy in 1976.

Now his relatives are provision to recover the rights to the material - which is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in royalties - to provide financial security for his widow and two year old son.

An elder son, Isaac Hayes III, says, "He definitely was done wrong. I'm very passionate or so that (providing security for the menage). If that means me trying to get my father's material back, I'm all for it."

Hayes' solicitor, Allen Arrow, says, "I can't rule out judicial proceeding... I would hope that we tin can retrieve a good part of what he lost."

And Lance Armstrong, president of Rondor Music, which owns the publication rights to Hayes' songs, added: "He lost millions, and it was virtuously and ethically wrong to take it from him. He was devastated."

The mortal singer died from a stroke earlier this month (Aug08).

George Michael to quit touring

Though the Final Two may sound like a name for world's strongest man finalists, a Mighty Boosh episode or some Battlestar Galactica characters, the truth of the matter is far more serious. The Final Two represents the end of an era, the last hurrah, a kind of entertainment apocalypse. Yes, they're George Michael's final two tour dates.

The pop star has announced that his 25 Live tour will end with a pair of concerts in London, the "Final Two" that will mark his retirement from touring. Though Michael may continue to play charity events and special one-off gigs, the days of record-breaking world tours are over, he said.

"He's not going to play any more big arenas," a spokeswoman told Reuters.

The gigs will take place August 24 and 25 at Earl's Court, London. The Live 25 tour started in Barcelona in 2006 and since then more than 1.3 million fans have attended the shows. George Michael will play dates in North America this summer, ahead of the Final Two in London.

"These very special shows will naturally feature Michael's hits, and some tracks not previously performed in Britain," said a statement on his website. Both concerts will be filmed, and will feature "a stunning new stage set". Oh yes.

The Final Two name is a reference to a 1986 gig called the Final, where George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley said farewell to Wham! in a sold-out Wembley Stadium performance.

Perhaps one day George Michael will organise a gig called the Final Final, to mark the end of doing final concerts.

Singer R. Kelly won't testify at his child pornography trial

CHICAGO - R. Kelly told the judge his child pornography trial Tuesday that he doesn't plan to testify in his own defence.

After Judge Vincent Gaughan told Kelly he had a right to not testify, the R&B singer leaned forward at the defence table with his hands folded and - speaking for the first time at the trial - responded: "I decided not to testify." The jury wasn't in the room at the time.

Kelly, 41, has pleaded not guilty to charges that he videotaped himself having sex with an underage girl. Both Kelly and the alleged victim, now 23, have denied being on the tape.

Also Tuesday, the judge ruled that jurors can view the sex tape once they begin deliberating.

Kelly's lawyers had asked the judge to bar jurors from reviewing the graphic video, saying they worried jurors would overemphasize one piece of evidence. But prosecutors argued the tape is the primary subject of the trial and couldn't be kept from jurors.

Prosecutors are scheduled to call two rebuttal witnesses. Closing arguments are likely to be delivered Thursday.

Kelly's lawyers surprised courtroom observers by resting their case Monday. Over two days, Kelly's lawyers called 12 witnesses. One was a forensics expert who testified there didn't appear to be a mole on the back of a man in a sex tape.

Defence lawyers say Kelly has a mole on his back, so the man on the tape can't be him. But a prosecution witness who'll take the stand for a second time is expected to challenge that claim.
